
Islamabad, April 28, 2019: Glug and Sketch organized their first ever networking event in Pakistan. Commemorating its mission in championing with creative communities around the world, the event was held in Hangout, Islamabad and was aimed to engage hosts and speakers to showcase awesome work, share experiences and meet like-minded people. The event features talks from creative people, agencies, start-ups, and exciting up-and-coming talent, plus tons of time for seriously light-hearted networking. One major activity planned at the event was a lucky draw among attendees in which two people won a Sketch license that was worth 100$ for the whole year.
The event formally started with the introduction of Roshaan Saeed who organized the event in collaboration with Payoneer. Being the CEO of Stippple, Ms. Roshaan launched the first meet-up of Glug and SketchApp. Roshaan Saeed is the first to approach such international entities to bring them to Pakistan to empower the local design industry. She also represents various global design platforms like Dribbble, Sketch, Glug and many more upcoming entities.
The first speaker of the event was Mr. Nabeel Yousaf who shared his story and failures that he faced in the field of film production. He elaborated on how he started his career in farming later on and made it his passion.
Ms. Zara, an architect, while talking to the audience highlighted the importance of women empowerment and design struggles in Pakistan. She told her audience how she transformed herself and struggled against all odds of the society and proved “Women can do anything”, and now she loves to get her hands dirty in order to pursue her passion of becoming a successful and well-known architect.
After that, Mr. Harris Ejaz, a vigilant creative director, shared his experience about Pakistani animated movie, “Allahyar the legend of Markhor.” He shared his concept and thought process starting from the sketches to character design and animation. Through live videos, he discussed the step by step guide and what went behind the scenes.
Ms. Tehmina Khurram shared her laughter therapy dose with the audience and made them feel fresh and light by making them laugh out loud.
The event was very well hosted by Mr. Mamoon Sabri. Based on his extraordinary expertise in the field, he managed the event efficiently through timely sessions and ensured participation of the audience.
The event was also supported by various media partners including Masooma Zuberi from M.Z Productions and Photography and Urooba Khalid Khan from Focus Productions, her team came all the way from Peshawar and Lahore to cover the creative event.
One major activity for engagement and refreshment of the participants was live music by Mr. Sarim Bukhari, a 19-year-old musician/vocalist who has an immense passion for music.
The event was attended by 80+ attendees with diversified fields and organizations and the attendees fully participated in the event and declared it as a very positive initiative. At the end of the event, Ms. Priya Osannah Smith, the marketing manager of Payoneer in Pakistan and Bangladesh gave her remarks for the continuation of such events for advocacy and awareness among the participants.
We are looking forward to see such amazing and creative initiatives being taken in Pakistan. Kudos to community builders like Roshaan Saeed who use their capabilities and do their magic to bring international communities and we should all encourage such organizers in carrying these causes forward.
