Scaling Up 13 Growth-Stage Impact Startups Through Epiphany Lab

Islamabad – October 25, 2019 – Epiphany, an impact consulting firm and social enterprise launched a rigorous, international, customized impact accelerator, Epiphany Lab, in partnership with Uncharted, a US organization based in Colorado and powered by JazzXlr8. National Incubation Center Islamabad is the strategic partner for the Lab, Center for Global Innovators is one of the sponsors and Startup Guide is the media partner.

Through Epiphany Lab, 13 high-potential growth stage entrepreneurs are engaging with 50 plus international and local mentors and receiving guidance on scaling their impact, learning what the fundraising process looks like, preparing their financial statements, designing a strategic plan to become investable and developing, practicing and delivering their pitch deck in front of potential funders.

Samar Hasan, CEO of Epiphany stated, “We customized the Uncharted program to reflect the needs of startups in Pakistan. Resultantly, it has evolved from a five-day Lab to a three-month accelerator comprising in-person workshops, pitch practice, one-on-one mentoring, an equity-free grant as well as post-acceleration marketing, business development and investment matching support. Through the program, we expect to unlock their potential and scale up.”

Mewah Delights, Gulhadi, Khawateen Rozgar, Zeestum, Self-Management Training (SMT), Subzi.Pk, Batoor, Fowrry, Technomation, BFreeze, LIVE Stick, Medxol, NanoHive are the shortlisted startups from a pool of 128 applications. They are addressing SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 and have businesses working on water security, healthcare solutions, self-management techniques for physically challenged people, energy efficiency, women empowerment, renewable energy solutions for food processing, nanotechnology, IOT, logistics.

Asad Ehmed, Epiphany’s Investment Lead and Micro VC and Saira Ahmad, Communications and PR Specialist said: “The Lab is a much-needed intervention in our ecosystem since startups are unfamiliar with the various stages and sources of investment as well as their own investment readiness. Consequently, they either sign up for the wrong type of investment deals, settle for unfavorable terms or start fundraising too late in the day. Epiphany Lab is designed to address these concerns and ensure they survive the valley of death.”

The in-person part of the Lab culminated in a Demo Day on October 26, 2019, where startups pitched in front of development and corporate sector representatives, investors, entrepreneurs and the larger entrepreneurial community. The winning startup Fowrry received an equity-free grant of PKR 250,000.
